I’m sure you have heard of the term “data breach”? A data breach is when a company unintentional leaks your personal information as a result of a hack attack, lost or stolen computers, fraud, inside theft. According to DataLoss db, there are 128,749,634 records affected which counted from 369 data breach incidents for the year of 2011. Three hundreds sixty night (369) incidents that affected four major sectors:
○ 44 incidents in education sector
○ 55 incidents in government
○ 105 incidents in medicals
○ 150 incidents in business sector.
Have you done any businesses with these sectors? I have! And I’m very careful with my personal information. But I know that it is not about how I keep my personal information. It is about how other people handle my sensitive information.
The risk with a data breach is that your personal information will get into the hands of the bad guys and you do not know today’s breach is not connected to tomorrow’s identity theft.
